Imagine how much healthier any faith community would be without the nasty habits of gossip, triangulation, and rumor-spreading! Imagine how much better equipped we would be to live of the mission and ministry Christ has given us if we assumed the best about others instead of the opposite.
Triangulation is an insidious habit that tears apart trust and devastates hope. Even with the best of intentions, this still leads to unfortunate situations. As Bonhoeffer writes, "For it is precisely in this guise that the spirit of hatred between believers always creeps in, seeking to cause trouble." The devil is at work in our gossip to ruin community.
How would our community - Bethesda - be different in no one talked about other members in secret? Can we even imagine this or is this habit too ingrained in our lives?
