Romans 1:12 That is, that we may be mutually encouraged by each other’s faith, both yours and mine.

Small group agreements are designed for groups to create their own identities and focus.  This agreement helps groups define who they are and what they want

Small groups aim to promote fellowship, personal connection, and encouragement of one another’s faith.  Small groups are an extension of Bethesda Lutheran Church but allow groups to find their own identities and ministry passions.

Small groups create an authentic environment where group members learn to know God through fellowship, friendship, and encouragement.  Our hope is for groups to build a stronger church community through these small group connections.   Our small groups will continue Bethesda’s model of gather, grow, and go.

Adhering to values will help to create a safe environment where people feel loved and are free to express their challenges and triumphs.  Example of values you want to consider are:

  • Confidentiality
  • Acceptance
  • Mutual respect even with differing opinions
  • Sensitivity
  • Affirmation
  • Sharing leadership responsibilities

Groups are encouraged to tailor the ground rules to fit their needs.  Here are some examples of logistical items that groups might consider.

  • When and where you meet
  • Frequency of meetings
  • Openness to group growth or change
  • Attendance expectations
  • Refreshments
  • Child care
  • Ways in which you will share leadership responsibilities (leading discussions, meeting in your home, bringing refreshments, following up with absentees, leading prayer, etc.).

The small group coordinator will assist their group to set their own agreements and discuss their purpose, vision, values, and expectations for their groups.  Small group coordinators are encouraged to contact the small group ministry team if you have questions or concerns on how to proceed with this.
